Children & Youth Support Assistant

Swansea & Carmarthenshire

£14.25 per hour | Full-Time & Part-Time Opportunities Available

Be the reason a child believes in themselves again.

Some need support with communication. Some struggle to regulate their emotions. Others need a trusted adult who believes in them, encourages them and helps them overcome barriers to learning.

The right support can change a child's confidence, behaviour and future.

We're looking for compassionate, resilient and energetic Children & Youth Support Assistants to support primary-aged pupils (3-11 years) across Swansea and Carmarthenshire.

You’ll work with children with a range of Additional Learning Needs (ALN), Autism, ADHD, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, physical disabilities and behavioural challenges, helping them access education, build confidence and achieve their potential.

If you’re passionate about making a genuine difference and want a role where no two days are the same, we’d love to hear from you.

The Role

As a Children & Youth Support Assistant, you’ll play a vital role in helping pupils overcome barriers and achieve success both inside and outside the classroom.

You may be:

  • Supporting children on a 1:1 basis
  • Delivering targeted interventions and small-group support
  • Assisting pupils with emotional regulation and behaviour management
  • Encouraging communication, social development and independence
  • Supporting learning activities inside and outside the classroom
  • Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils
  • Using proactive behaviour strategies to achieve positive outcomes
  • Working closely with teachers and pastoral staff to help pupils thrive

Every day brings new challenges, but also opportunities to make a lasting difference.

The Children You'll Support

You may support pupils with:

  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • ADHD
  • Additional Learning Needs (ALN)
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs (SEMH)
  • Speech and Language Difficulties
  • Moderate to Severe Learning Difficulties
  • Trauma and Attachment Needs
  • Physical Disabilities
  • Sensory Processing Difficulties
  • Emotional and Behavioural Challenges

No two children are the same, which is why adaptability, patience and understanding are so important.

What Makes an Excellent Children's Support Assistant?

We’re looking for individuals who are:

Patient, calm and resilient

Positive and enthusiastic

Confident building relationships with children

Comfortable supporting challenging behaviour

Reliable, proactive and hard-working

Passionate about helping children succeed
