Location: Stoke-on-Trent Start Date: September Contract: Full-time (Initially until Christmas, with likely extension)
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teacher to join a specialist school in Stoke-on-Trent from September. This is a full-time teaching position working with Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 pupils with a range of special educational needs.
The role is initially confirmed until the Christmas break, with a strong likelihood of extension beyond this period for the right candidate.
Responsibilities
- Plan, deliver, and assess engaging and differentiated lessons tailored to students with SEN needs
- Teach a small class of KS3–KS4 pupils with varying abilities and learning profiles
- Create a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment
- Develop individual learning plans (IEPs/EHCP targets) and monitor student progress
- Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, therapists, and other professionals
- Implement behaviour management strategies effectively and consistently
- Support students’ social, emotional, and academic development
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to reviews and reports
Qualifications
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) or equivalent
- Experience working with SEN pupils (e.g., ASD, SEMH, MLD, SLD or similar)
- Strong classroom management skills and a nurturing approach
- Ability to differentiate learning to meet a wide range of needs
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- A resilient, patient, and adaptable mindset
Additional Requirements
- Previous experience teaching in an SEN school or specialist provision
- Experience with EHCP targets and personalised learning plans
- Training in areas such as Team Teach, behaviour management, or autism strategies
