This is an opportunity to take ownership of a Year 6 class from January 2027 and guide pupils through an important stage of their education. You’ll help them prepare for SATs, develop stronger learning habits and approach the transition to secondary school with confidence. The school is looking for a teacher who combines high expectations with a calm, encouraging classroom presence. You’ll join an established KS2 team, with support from colleagues and Teaching Assistants throughout the year. Why Teachers Will Be Interested A permanent contract from January 2027 Responsibility for one Year 6 class A supportive and collaborative KS2 team Leadership that values staff development and wellbeing Dedicated Teaching Assistant support An established curriculum and clear school routines The opportunity to shape SATs preparation and targeted intervention Scope to contribute to subject leadership and wider school development A caring school community where staff know pupils and families well Secure employment without the uncertainty of temporary cover Your Role As the Year 6 Class Teacher, you will: Plan and deliver engaging lessons across the Year 6 curriculum Prepare pupils for KS2 SATs without allowing assessments to dominate the wider curriculum Use assessment effectively to identify gaps and plan appropriate next steps Deliver or coordinate focused English and mathematics interventions Adapt teaching for pupils with SEND, EAL and different starting points Maintain clear routines and positive behaviour expectations Work closely with Teaching Assistants to ensure support is purposeful Monitor pupil progress and maintain accurate assessment records Communicate professionally with parents and carers Support pupils academically and pastorally as they prepare for secondary school Contribute to curriculum development and the wider life of the school Respect and support the school’s Catholic values and ethos Who Is the School Looking For? The school would like to meet a teacher who: Holds Qualified Teacher Status Has experience teaching within KS2 Has secure knowledge of the upper-KS2 curriculum Can confidently teach Year 6 English and mathematics Understands assessment and end-of-key-stage expectations Can balance SATs preparation with a broad, engaging curriculum Uses assessment to respond to misconceptions and gaps in learning Has a calm, consistent and positive approach to behaviour Builds strong relationships with pupils, families and colleagues Can work collaboratively within an established KS2 team Is committed to becoming a long-term member of the school community Previous Year 6 or SATs experience would be valuable, but teachers with strong upper-KS2 experience will also be considered. Applications are welcome from experienced teachers and ECTs with substantial Year 6 or upper-KS2 placement experience. The school is particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate readiness to take responsibility for end-of-key-stage assessment and pupil transition. The successful teacher will help pupils consolidate their primary learning, develop independence and prepare socially and academically for secondary school. You’ll have the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with the class and see the direct impact of your teaching during a significant year in their education.
