About the Role

We are seeking a motivated, resilient, and dynamic Unqualified SEN Primary Teacher to join a welcoming SEN primary school in St Albans, Hertfordshire. This is an exceptional opportunity for an undergraduate degree holder who is passionate about special educational needs and eager to develop their teaching practice across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.
You will work closely with experienced SEN educators, therapy teams, and senior leadership, gradually taking on responsibility for planning, preparing, and delivering tailored, engaging lessons to small classes, with dedicated support and structured on-the-job training provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, adapt, and deliver high-quality, sensory-aware lessons tailored to the KS1 and KS2 curriculum for pupils with diverse learning needs.
- Lead small-class instruction, managing classroom dynamics and behavior effectively through positive reinforcement and de-escalation strategies.
- Differentiate learning activities to support pupils with autism (ASC), speech and language needs, and complex learning difficulties.
- Establish a safe, structured, and nurturing environment where pupils feel supported to reach their full potential.
- Collaborate closely with Special Educational Needs Coordinators (SENCo), teaching assistants, speech therapists, and parents.
- Track pupil progress, celebrate small wins, and contribute to Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and EHCP reviews.
The Ideal Candidate
- Education: An undergraduate degree (essential).
- Career Goals: A genuine desire to pursue a career in SEN primary teaching and work towards formal teaching credentials (QTS).
- Experience: Previous experience working with children with SEN in a school, care, youth work, or tutoring setting (highly desirable).
- Skills: Excellent communication, patience, and strong behavior management or de-escalation skills.
- Attributes: High emotional intelligence, resilience, adaptability, and a creative, pupil-centered approach to learning.
- Requirements: A complete commitment to child safeguarding, inclusion, and the ability to commute to St Albans, Hertfordshire.
