A welcoming secondary school in Merthyr is looking for a Sporty Learning Assistant to support students who benefit from movement, structure and positive role models. This role is ideal for someone who understands how sport and activity can build confidence, improve behaviour and re-engage learners.

The Role

  • You’ll be part of a supportive school team, working with pupils who may struggle with behaviour, emotional regulation or engagement. Using sport, physical activity and mentoring, you’ll help students stay focused and feel included.
  • This role includes:
  • Supporting pupils 1:1 or in small groups, both in class and through active interventions
  • Using sport, games and structured activities to encourage positive behaviour
  • Helping de-escalate challenging situations in a calm, consistent way
  • Building strong, trusting relationships with students
  • Encouraging attendance, routine and engagement with learning
  • Working closely with teachers and pastoral staff to support behaviour plans
