This specialist Alternative Provision is dedicated to offering a structured, supportive, and inclusive environment for young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN). All students attending the provision have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), and require individualised support to succeed both academically and personally. The setting is focused on building a nurturing space where every young person can feel safe, valued, and understood.

The Role:

The school is seeking a passionate and resilient Sports Coach to join its dedicated team. This full-time role offers a meaningful opportunity to use sport as a tool to engage, inspire, and support students who may face challenges in mainstream education. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and delivering inclusive and dynamic physical education sessions tailored to the needs of students with a range of SEN, including ASD, ADHD, and SEMH.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and lead a sports and physical activity programme that reflects the individual needs and interests of students.
  • Use physical activity to encourage positive behaviour, develop emotional regulation, and promote teamwork and self-confidence.
  • Collaborate with teachers, teaching assistants, and external professionals to support each student’s holistic development.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students to foster engagement, motivation, and a sense of belonging.
  • Adapt coaching styles and activities to accommodate a variety of learning and behavioural needs.
  • Track and report on student progress, contributing to EHCP reviews and staff planning discussions.
  • Ensure a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment during all sports and physical education activities.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrable experience in sports coaching, ideally within an educational or youth-focused environment.
  • Knowledge and experience of working with children and young people with SEN, particularly those with SEMH, ASD, and ADHD.
  • Strong behaviour management skills, with the ability to remain calm and consistent in challenging situations.
  • A flexible and empathetic approach, with a genuine commitment to helping young people succeed.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
