We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Specialist Youth Support Officer to join a behaviour unit in the Carmarthen area, supporting pupils to re‑engage with learning, develop emotional resilience, and achieve their potential. The role will be highly challenging but will offer you great job satisfaction and sense of achievement.
About the Role:
- Work closely with pupils who display challenging behaviour, providing consistent, calm, and positive support
- Help young people develop emotional regulation, social skills, and self‑confidence
- Support learning inside and outside the classroom
- Build strong relationships based on trust, respect, and clear boundaries
- Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and external professionals
- Be a positive role model and advocate for pupils who need it most
What we’re looking for:
- Committed, compassionate, and resilient individuals
- Understanding or keen to learn about behavioural needs, trauma‑informed practice, or SEMH
- Previous experience working with children/young people with challenging behaviour and social, emotional and mental health difficulties (SEMH) is ideal
- A Team‑Teach qualification or relevant qualification is highly desirable, but not essential
- Essential qualities include an understanding and flexible nature, being proactive, empathetic, engaging, and creative
- Patience, engagement, and calmness under pressure
Requirements:
- Have an Enhanced DBS on the updated service – or able to obtain one
- Ideally hold a full UK driving licence
- Be registered with the EWC (Education Workforce Council) or willing to
