SEN Teaching Assistant (SEMH) – KS2, KS3 KS4 Location: Blackburn Start Date: September 2026 Contract: Temporary to Permanent Salary: Competitive (dependent on experience) About the Role We are seeking a dedicated and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) school in Blackburn. This role will involve supporting pupils across Key Stages 2, 3 and 4 , many of whom present with challenging behaviours and complex emotional needs. This is a temporary to permanent opportunity , offering the chance to secure a long-term position within a supportive and rewarding environment. Key Responsibilities Support pupils on a 1:1 and small group basis Assist the class teacher with delivering tailored learning activities Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation strategies Build strong, trusting relationships with students Help create a safe, structured and engaging learning environment Manage and de-escalate challenging behaviours effectively The Ideal Candidate Will Have Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs Strong behaviour management skills A calm, patient and consistent demeanour The ability to remain resilient in challenging situations A proactive and flexible approach to supporting learning A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable pupils What We Offer Opportunity to transition into a permanent role Supportive leadership and team environment Ongoing training and development opportunities A rewarding role where you can make a real difference If you are a compassionate and confident individual with experience in behaviour support and a passion for helping students succeed, we would love to hear from you.
