We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and inclusive school community in Portsmouth. This is a term-time only position, offering a fantastic opportunity to make a real impact on the lives of pupils with a wide range of complex special educational needs.

Role Overview:

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in enabling pupils to access learning and engage positively with their education. You will work one-to-one and in small groups, supporting pupils across a variety of classroom and supported learning activities, under the direction of the class teacher. You will also promote the physical and mental wellbeing of pupils, encouraging independence, confidence, and social development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support to pupils with complex needs, both individually and in small groups
  • Assist with classroom activities and learning interventions as directed by teaching staff
  • Foster a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for all learners
  • Support pupils in developing social and emotional regulation skills
  • Encourage and promote pupils’ physical and mental wellbeing through daily routines and targeted activities
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other support staff

Candidate Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN is highly desirable
  • A caring, patient and proactive approach to supporting learning
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to follow instructions while using initiative to adapt support where needed
  • A team player committed to promoting inclusion and pupil progress
