Teaching Personnel is currently recruiting a committed and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 and classroom-based support within a specialist school in Ystrad Mynach , working with pupils aged 3–19 .

This is a highly hands-on SEN role , ideal for individuals who are calm under pressure, adaptable, and confident supporting children and young people across all key stages. No two days are the same — you may work across different classrooms, age groups, and needs throughout the week, tailoring your approach to ensure every pupil receives the right support at the right time. To thrive in this SEN Teaching Assistant position, you’ll need a positive, persistent mindset and the ability to remain composed in challenging situations. Building trusting relationships, using effective behaviour management and de-escalation strategies, and creating a safe, supportive learning environment are central to this role.

Who We’re Looking for?

  • Resilient, patient and understanding attitude
  • Support pupils with personal care, mobility, and sensory needs where required.
  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEN and challenging behaviours
  • Deliver consistent 1:1 and small group support during lessons and daily activities tailored to individual pupil need
  • The ability to implement strategies to manage and de-escalate behaviour effectively
  • A commitment to encouraging the pupil’s engagement, confidence, and emotional development
  • Dedication to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment

Requirements (or willingness to obtain independently)

To demonstrate commitment to working in education, applicants must hold or be willing to apply for:

  • Education Workforce Council (EWC) registration
  • Be aged 18 or over
  • An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service
  • Level 2 Safeguarding training
  • A minimum of two professional references covering 24 months of employment

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
