Teaching Assistant – SEMH Support (KS2)

Location: Chorley, Lancashire
Contract Length: Until the end of the academic year
Pay Rate: £13.75 – £15.00 per hour
School Type: Mainstream Primary School

Working hours: 8:45-15:15 Monday-Friday

Role Summary

We are seeking a committed, resilient, and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Chorley , supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs across Key Stage 2 .

This long-term role runs until the end of the academic year and is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting children’s emotional wellbeing, engagement, and progress within a primary school setting. You will work closely with class teachers, SEN staff, and pastoral teams to help pupils access learning and develop positive relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting pupils with SEMH needs across KS2, both in and out of the classroom

  • Providing one-to-one and small-group support tailored to individual needs

  • Supporting emotional regulation, positive behaviour, and engagement in learning

  • Assisting class teachers with lesson delivery and classroom routines

  • Promoting inclusion, consistency, and positive learning experiences

  • Building trusting, supportive relationships with pupils

Essential Criteria

  • Experience working with children, ideally within a school or SEMH-focused setting

  • Experience supporting pupils with SEMH needs, or a strong interest in this area

  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach

  • Ability to uphold clear boundaries and positive behaviour expectations

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
