Teaching Personnel is currently recruiting for a Functional Skills Teacher to join a specialist secondary alternative provision supporting students in Key Stage 4.

This setting works with learners who face a range of barriers to education, including Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), anxiety, trauma-related behaviours, attachment difficulties, emotional dysregulation, poor school attendance, and challenging behaviour.

The provision offers a structured, supportive, and therapeutic learning environment designed to re-engage students with education and prepare them for positive post‑16 destinations.

Class sizes are small, allowing staff to build strong relationships with pupils and deliver highly personalised learning programmes.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver high-quality Functional Skills lessons to KS4 students.
• Differentiate learning to meet a range of academic abilities and additional needs.
• Create a positive, inclusive classroom environment that promotes engagement and achievement.
• Support students to develop confidence, resilience, and independence.
• Implement behaviour support strategies and restorative approaches.
• Monitor, assess, and track student progress against individual targets.
• Prepare students for Functional Skills qualifications and future pathways.
• Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, pastoral teams, and external professionals.
• Develop positive relationships with students, encouraging attendance and participation.
• Maintain accurate records and contribute to reviews and reports.

Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), QTLS, or equivalent teaching qualification.
• Experience teaching Functional Skills, English, Mathematics, or a related subject at secondary level.
• Understanding of SEMH needs and the challenges faced by students in alternative provisions.
• Strong behaviour management and relationship‑building skills.
• Ability to adapt teaching methods to engage learners with diverse needs.
• A patient, resilient, and empathetic approach.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one through Teaching Personnel.
