1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant in Salford

Teaching Personnel are seeking a dedicated 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to support a student with complex needs in a highly supportive SEN Secondary School in Salford. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is calm, patient, and passionate about helping young people overcome barriers and achieve their full potential.

Working 1:1, you’ll deliver tailored support, consistency and encouragement, helping your student feel secure, understood and fully engaged in their learning. This role suits someone who thrives in a hands-on, nurturing environment and is ready to make a meaningful impact every day. You’ll be supporting a student with Autism, speech and language needs, and moderate learning difficulties—providing the patience, structure and personalised strategies they need to grow both academically and socially.

• Provide tailored 1:1 support for a student with complex learning, communication or medical needs throughout the school day.
• Implement personalised learning plans, adapting resources and activities to suit the student’s individual needs.
• Support emotional regulation and behaviour, using de-escalation and positive reinforcement strategies.
• Assist with communication methods, such as PECs, Makaton, visual aids or assistive technologies (training provided if needed).
• Work closely with teachers, therapists and SEN staff to track progress and contribute to the student’s development plan.
• Promote independence, life skills and confidence, helping the student navigate both academic and social challenges.

• Experience working with children or young people with SEN (school, care, youth work or similar).
• Understanding of complex needs such as autism, ADHD, sensory needs, learning delays, or physical/medical needs.
• A calm, patient and resilient approach with strong behaviour support skills.
• Willingness to assist with personal care if required.
• A Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
