SEN Learning Support Practitioner
Primary & Secondary SEN School | Rochdale
Do you have the patience to understand a young person, the creativity to inspire them, and the resilience to help them succeed?
If so, we'd love to hear from you.
We are looking for a passionate, enthusiastic and nurturing SEN Learning Support Practitioner to join our dedicated team at our specialist Primary and Secondary SEN school in Rochdale.
This is so much more than a classroom support role. You’ll be part of a team that helps young people discover what they can achieve, build confidence and develop the skills they need for life beyond school.
What will you be doing?
Working closely with teachers, pastoral staff and other professionals, you will provide tailored support to pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and, where appropriate, social, emotional and mental health needs.
Your day could involve:
- Supporting pupils to access learning and develop their independence.
- Building positive, trusting relationships with children and young people.
- Providing one-to-one and small-group support.
- Helping pupils regulate their emotions and manage challenges.
- Encouraging positive behaviour and celebrating progress.
- Adapting activities to meet individual needs and learning styles.
- Supporting pupils with their communication, social and emotional development.
- Helping create a calm, safe and inclusive learning environment.
- Working as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure every pupil receives the right support.
No two days will be the same — and every day you'll have the opportunity to make a genuine difference.
Who are we looking for?
We're looking for someone who is:
- Warm, patient and genuinely caring.
- Passionate about helping children and young people succeed.
- Resilient, positive and able to remain calm under pressure.
- A strong communicator and team player.
- Creative and flexible in their approach to learning.
- Able to build meaningful relationships with pupils.
- Committed to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of young people.
- Ideally experienced in SEN, SEMH, education, care, youth work or a similar setting — but we are also interested in hearing from people with the right attitude, values and potential.
You don't need to have all the answers. You do need to care, be willing to learn and believe that every young person has potential.
Why join us?
Because here, your work matters.
You’ll join a supportive team where staff are encouraged to develop their skills, share ideas and bring their own personality and strengths to the role.
You’ll have the opportunity to:
- Make a measurable difference to pupils' lives.
- Develop your career within specialist education.
- Gain valuable experience working with a diverse range of needs.
- Work alongside experienced teachers, therapists and pastoral professionals.
- Be part of a school community that celebrates small steps as well as big achievements.
- Build relationships that can genuinely change a young person's future.
