Teaching Personnel are working in partnership with a welcoming and supportive SEMH primary provision in Rochdale to recruit a Qualified Teacher who is passionate about supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. This role is open to qualified teachers with limited SEMH experience too, who are keen, motivated and eager to develop their skills within a specialist setting. You will be supported by an experienced leadership team, SENCO and pastoral staff, with access to ongoing training and mentoring. The school supports pupils aged 5–11 who have SEMH needs, often linked to trauma, emotional regulation difficulties, anxiety and behavioural challenges. Class sizes are small, allowing for a relationship-led, child-centred approach to teaching.

The Role:

  • Plan and deliver engaging, adapted lessons in line with the primary curriculum
  • Create a safe, nurturing and structured classroom environment
  • Support pupils’ emotional regulation, behaviour and social development alongside academics
  • Use positive behaviour strategies and trauma-informed approaches
  • Follow EHCPs, behaviour plans and individual targets with guidance from the SENCO
  • Work closely with teaching assistants and pastoral staff
  • Monitor progress and celebrate small but meaningful achievements
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and families

  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

Previous SEMH or specialist school experience is desirable but not essential — enthusiasm, commitment and the right attitude are key.
