Teaching Personnel are looking to recruit a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant to join a small primary school in Rochdale (OL11) to provide whole class support, intervention support and whole class teaching cover starting in September 2026.

Full time position Monday – Friday 8:30am – 3:30pm. Earnings paid weekly. Ofsted “good” school in the heart of Rochdale.

The role of a HLTA will primarily be focused on providing class support with the possibility of providing whole class cover as part of PPA provision according to the PPA timetable, as well as providing short-term cover across the school in response to unplanned teacher absence. You will work collaboratively with class teachers to plan, teach, and assess the curriculum so all pupils, including those with special educational needs and disabilities, may achieve success in line with the school vision, ethos and aims.

You will be expected to promote and support the inclusion of all pupils, including those with specific needs, both in the classroom as part of teaching support and through intervention work in the afternoons. Using positive behaviour management strategies in line with the school’s policy, you will contribute to a purposeful learning environment and encourage pupils to interact and work cooperatively with others. In some scenarios when teaching whole classes, you will deploy teaching assistants confidently and effectively to best support the academic and behavioural needs of pupils in the class.

Ideally, the school would like to appoint a suitably qualified TA who holds a Level 4 qualification; however, this is not a statutory requirement. Therefore, experienced teaching assistants with experience of providing whole class cover and having had planning responsibility would be encouraged to apply. Similarly, early career teachers who want whole class experience or fully qualified teachers looking for a different, flexible role would be qualified for this position.

The school is a small, community school with one class for each year group, with roughly 200 children on roll. They are rated as a Good School, with Outstanding personal development, behaviour, and welfare, with a focus on mental wellbeing and happiness within their children.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date. Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’. This may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants. We offer all our registered candidates FREE child protection and prevent duty training. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
