Teaching Assistant (Year 1)

Fulwood, Preston Monday to Friday | 8:45am – 3:15pm Start Date: 19th October Fixed-Term until End of Academic Year (Potential to Extend)

We are currently seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming mainstream primary school in the Fulwood area of Preston. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about supporting young children in their educational journey and helping them achieve their full potential.

Working primarily within a Year 1 classroom, you will play a key role in supporting pupils' learning and development, working alongside the class teacher to create an engaging and positive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Supporting teaching and learning within a Year 1 classroom.
• Delivering guided reading sessions to small groups of pupils.
• Planning and delivering targeted phonics intervention groups.
• Providing additional support to children who require extra help with their learning.
• Encouraging children's confidence, independence and engagement in lessons.
• Assisting with classroom preparation and general classroom duties.
• Promoting positive behaviour and supporting pupils' social and emotional development.

Requirements

• A recognised Teaching Assistant qualification or Childcare qualification (or equivalent).
• Previous experience supporting young children within a school, nursery, childcare or similar setting is highly desirable.
• A good understanding of early reading and phonics would be advantageous.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• A patient, caring and flexible approach to supporting pupils.

The Role

• Location: Fulwood, Preston
• Hours: 8:45am – 3:15pm, Monday to Friday
• Start Date: 19th October
• Duration: Long-term, fixed‑term position until the end of the academic year, with the possibility of extension for the right candidate.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
