Looking to gain valuable, hands-on experience before pursuing a career in Educational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Teaching, Speech and Language Therapy, Social Work, or Mental Health Services? Teaching Personnel is seeking enthusiastic and compassionate Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistants to work across a range of primary and secondary schools in Newcastle upon Tyne. This is an excellent opportunity to develop practical skills, gain invaluable experience supporting children with additional needs, and make a genuine impact in the classroom.

Responsibilities

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with varying learning needs
  • Building positive and trusting relationships to improve engagement, confidence, and wellbeing
  • Supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
  • Assisting teachers in delivering targeted interventions and personalised learning strategies
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and helping students overcome barriers to learning
  • Monitoring student progress and communicating effectively with teachers and school staff
  • Creating a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment where every child can succeed

Qualifications

  • A degree in Psychology or a related subject
  • A genuine passion for supporting children and young people
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A patient, resilient, and empathetic approach
  • The ability to build strong relationships and adapt to different school environments
  • Previous experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable individuals (desirable but not essential)
