Teaching Personnel is seeking a compassionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant Level 2 to join a highly regarded specialist primary school in Preston on a temporary-to-permanent basis. This nurturing and inclusive setting supports pupils aged 2–11 with a range of complex special educational needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), and additional sensory and physical needs. The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant Level 2, you will work closely with teachers, therapists, and other support staff to help pupils access learning and achieve their individual targets. You will provide both classroom and individual support, adapting activities to meet a range of learning, communication, sensory, and personal care needs.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting pupils with complex SEN on a 1:1 and small-group basis
  • Assisting with personalised learning activities and interventions
  • Encouraging communication, social interaction, and independence
  • Supporting pupils with sensory regulation and emotional wellbeing
  • Assisting with personal care where required
  • Implementing behaviour and communication strategies consistently
  • Working collaboratively with teaching staff, therapists, and families
  • Promoting a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment

The Ideal Candidate

  • Holds a Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent)
  • Has experience supporting children with SEN, ideally within a specialist or mainstream setting
  • Demonstrates patience, resilience, and a child-centred approach
  • Has an understanding of autism, communication needs, and complex learning difficulties
  • Is confident working as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Can build positive and trusting relationships with pupils and staff
  • Is committed to supporting every child to reach their full potential
