Are you a caring, patient and experienced Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting children with additional needs? We are looking for a dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Portsmouth, supporting a Year 1 child with SEN needs from September. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who enjoys building strong relationships with children and helping them develop their confidence, independence and learning skills.

The role will involve:

  • Providing dedicated 1:1 support to a Year 1 pupil with additional needs
  • Supporting the child to access learning and participate fully in the school day
  • Helping with communication, social and emotional development
  • Providing encouragement and reassurance throughout the day
  • Supporting positive behaviour and emotional regulation
  • Adapting activities and learning to suit the child's individual needs
  • Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO
  • Helping the child develop greater independence and confidence
  • Supporting inclusion within the classroom and wider school environment

The ideal candidate will be:

  • Experienced working with children with SEN
  • Patient, nurturing and understanding
  • Calm and confident when supporting challenging situations
  • Able to build a strong, trusting relationship with a young child
  • Adaptable and able to follow individual support strategies
  • Reliable, enthusiastic and committed to making a difference
  • Previous experience in a primary school or 1:1 SEN role would be highly desirable
