A welcoming primary school in Heysham is seeking a Phonics Intervention Teaching Assistant to join their team from 23rd February 2026. This is a full-time role supporting pupils across EYFS, KS1 and lower KS2 who require additional help with phonics and early reading skills. You will work closely with class teachers, the literacy lead and SEN team to deliver targeted small group and 1:1 phonics interventions, helping pupils build confidence and make measurable progress.
The Role
- Deliver structured phonics interventions to small groups and individual pupils
- Support early reading and literacy development across EYFS & KS1
- Adapt learning materials to meet individual needs
- Track progress and provide feedback to teaching staff
- Help create a calm, positive and encouraging learning environment
Experience with recognised phonics schemes such as Read Write Inc., Letters and Sounds or similar is highly desirable.
The Ideal Candidate
- Has experience supporting phonics and early reading development
- Is confident working independently with pupils in intervention settings
- Is patient, nurturing and passionate about helping children succeed
- Experience supporting pupils with EAL or additional needs is beneficial but not essential
