We’re working with secondary schools across Rochdale and Oldham that are looking for reliable, confident Cover Supervisors to support students and keep lessons on track when their usual teacher is unavailable.
Whether you’re a recent graduate, considering teacher training, or simply looking for a rewarding role working with young people, this could be a great opportunity to build valuable experience in a school environment.
As a Cover Supervisor, you’ll take responsibility for supervising students during lessons in the absence of their regular teacher.
You won’t be expected to plan or deliver full lessons. Instead, lesson plans and resources will usually be provided, allowing you to focus on maintaining a positive learning environment, supporting students and ensuring work is completed.
- Supervise classes across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4
- Deliver pre-prepared lesson materials and instructions
- Ensure students remain focused and engaged with their work
- Maintain a calm, positive and productive classroom environment
- Manage low-level behaviour and follow the school’s behaviour policies
- Support students with their work where appropriate
- Take registers and follow school procedures
- Ensure students complete and submit work as required
- Report any significant behaviour or safeguarding concerns to the appropriate member of staff
- Build positive and professional relationships with students and staff
We’re looking for people who are:
- Confident and comfortable working with secondary-aged students
- Reliable, punctual and professional
- Able to manage a classroom calmly and fairly
- Clear and confident communicators
- Adaptable and able to work across different subjects
- Resilient and able to remain composed in challenging situations
- Keen to gain experience within education
Graduates are particularly welcome, especially those considering a future career in teaching, education, youth work or a related field.
Subject-specific knowledge can be useful, but the most important qualities are confidence, professionalism and the ability to build positive relationships with young people.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
