If you're thinking about becoming a teacher but would like to gain experience in a school first, this could be a good opportunity for you.

Our 2-year salaried teacher training programme allows you to work in a secondary school while developing your skills and working towards becoming a qualified teacher.

You will earn a salary throughout the programme and receive support and training along the way.

You will spend your first year working as a Cover Supervisor in a secondary school in Nottingham.

This will give you the opportunity to get used to the school environment, work with pupils and develop your confidence in the classroom.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering lessons using materials provided by teachers
  • Managing classrooms and supporting positive behaviour
  • Supporting pupils with their learning
  • Working with teachers and other members of school staff
  • Observing experienced teachers
  • Taking part in training and development sessions
  • Developing your confidence and understanding of secondary education

This first year is designed to give you a strong foundation before progressing into formal teacher training.

In year two, you will move into formal teacher training while continuing to work within a school.

You will work towards your:

  • PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education)
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

Alongside your studies, you will continue to gain classroom experience and gradually take on more responsibility for teaching.

You will also have access to mentoring, guidance and ongoing professional development throughout the year.

We are looking for graduates who are interested in developing a career in secondary education.

You should:

  • Have a UK bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Be interested in working with young people
  • Have good communication skills
  • Be organised, reliable and motivated
  • Be willing to learn and develop
  • Be committed to a career in teaching

Previous teaching experience is not essential. The programme is suitable for graduates as well as people looking to make a career change.
