About the Role

We are currently recruiting a Mainstream Teaching Assistant to support students with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) in a welcoming and inclusive secondary school in Newport, South Wales. This role is based in a mainstream classroom setting, providing 1:1 and small group support to pupils with a range of additional needs. It is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant or someone looking to further develop their career in SEN/ALN education.

Students you will support may have:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Global Developmental Delay
  • Prader-Willi Syndrome

Key Responsibilities

As a Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Support the class teacher in delivering inclusive and engaging lessons
  • Provide tailored academic, emotional, and behavioural support to pupils with ALN
  • Assist with the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour strategies
  • Promote student independence, confidence, and classroom engagement
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, school staff, and parents/carers
  • Contribute to a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment

Person Specification

We are looking for a Teaching Assistant who:

  • Has experience supporting children or young people with additional learning needs
  • Has knowledge of ASD, ADHD, or complex needs (desirable)
  • Demonstrates a calm, patient, and nurturing approach
  • Has strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Is passionate about inclusive education
  • Holds a Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or is willing to work towards one)

Essential Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must:

  • Have the right to work in the UK
  • Hold or obtain a DBS certificate (we can help you with this)
  • Be registered with the Education Workforce Council (we can help you with this)
  • Provide two professional references covering the last 24 months
