Teaching Personnel is recruiting an enthusiastic Graduate Teaching Assistant to join a supportive secondary school in Newport from September 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for graduates considering careers in teaching, educational psychology, social work, counselling, or youth work.
Previous school experience is not essential; however, applicants must be able to demonstrate strong transferable skills gained through previous employment, volunteering, coaching, or other experience working with children and young people.
As a Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils aged 11-16, providing general classroom support whilst working closely with the school's Additional Learning Needs (ALN) team. You will provide one-to-one and small group support, help students access learning, encourage positive behaviour, and play a key role in creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

We welcome applications from graduates and experienced educators who are passionate about supporting young people. Do you have any of the following?
- Experience in childcare, youth work, mentoring, tutoring, support work, care work, sports coaching, or similar transferable roles
- Relevant qualifications (or studying towards them) in Education, Psychology, Childhood Studies, Criminology, Health & Social Care, or a related field
- Confidence supporting pupils with ALN/SEN or behavioural needs
- A patient, resilient, and positive approach to working with young people
Requirements
To demonstrate commitment to working in education, applicants must hold or be willing to apply for:
- Education Workforce Council (EWC) registration
- Be aged 18 or over
- An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service
- Level 2 Safeguarding training (Completed as part of your onboarding)
- A minimum of two professional references covering 24 months
