Teaching Personnel are seeking a resilient, proactive Learning Support Assistant to work on a 1:1 basis with a secondary school pupil. This is a full‑time position based in secondary schools in Newcastle Upon Tyne, ideal for someone passionate about inclusion, behaviour support, and making a real impact in a young person’s life.

About the Role

As a dedicated 1:1 LSA, your role will focus on helping the pupil stay safe, supported, and engaged throughout the school day. You'll work closely with teaching staff, pastoral leads, and the school’s SEN team to deliver personalised support and build a strong, trusting relationship with the student.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide consistent 1:1 behaviour support throughout the school day
  • Ensure the pupil is safeguarded and supported emotionally and physically
  • De‑escalate incidents calmly and professionally using appropriate strategies
  • Encourage engagement with lessons and support re‑integration into the classroom
  • Deliver personalised interventions to support emotional regulation and social skills
  • Maintain clear communication with staff, SENCOs, and parents/carers
  • Monitor and report behaviour patterns, progress, and concerns accurately

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience working with young people with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour (school‑based preferred)
  • Calm, confident, and consistent approach to behaviour management
  • A patient, empathetic nature with the ability to build strong rapport
  • A good understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries
  • Ability to work collaboratively with school staff and external agencies
  • Team Teach or other de‑escalation training is highly desirable (but not essential)

Requirements

  • Right to work in the UK
  • Must have experience working in a UK school or educational setting
  • Enhanced Child Workforce DBS (on the Update Service or willingness to apply)
  • Relevant experience or qualifications (e.g. Behaviour Support, Youth Work, SEN) preferred
  • Availability to start immediately and commit to a full‑time role
