About the Role
A welcoming and forward-thinking secondary school in Nailsea is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join their team from September2026.
This role supports young people across Key Stages3 and4 by partnering with teachers and pastoral staff to raise attainment, promote positive behaviour and create an engaging learning environment.
You will lead learning activities, deliver interventions, cover lessons and ensure students remain engaged and on track.
Key Responsibilities
- Support teaching and learning across a range of subjects and year groups.
- Deliver planned lessons and provide classroom cover in the absence of teaching staff.
- Work with individual students and small groups to provide targeted academic support.
- Deliver intervention programmes to help students overcome barriers to learning.
- Monitor and record student progress, feeding back to teaching staff as appropriate.
- Promote positive behaviour and support the school's behaviour management policies.
- Support students with additional learning needs, including SEND pupils.
- Contribute to the wider school community and participate in school events and activities.
- Build positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and external agencies.
- Ideal Candidate
- Holds HLTA status or has equivalent experience within an educational setting.
- Has previous experience working within a secondary school environment.
- Is confident managing classrooms and leading learning activities independently.
- Possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrates a proactive and flexible approach to supporting students.
- Has a strong commitment to safeguarding and student wellbeing.
- Is passionate about helping young people achieve their academic and personal goals.
