Schools across the Lancaster, Morecambe and Heysham areas are recruiting Pastoral and Welfare Assistants to support pupils’ emotional wellbeing, behaviour and day‑to‑day welfare. This is a vital role within the school community, focused on ensuring every pupil feels safe, supported and able to engage fully in their learning.
Responsibilities
- Provide emotional, social and behavioural support to pupils who require additional guidance
- Build positive, supportive relationships with pupils, families and staff
- Support wellbeing interventions and respond to pastoral concerns
- Promote positive behaviour, safeguarding awareness and inclusive practice
- Assist with attendance, engagement and welfare‑related initiatives
- Maintain accurate pastoral records in line with school procedures
Qualifications
- Experience in pastoral work, youth work, care, or school‑based support
- Strong communication, empathy and rapport‑building skills
- Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality
- Calm, reliable and confident managing sensitive or challenging situations
- Understanding of safeguarding and pupil‑wellbeing frameworks
