Location: Lancaster, Morecambe & Heysham

Start Date: February 2026

Contract: Full‑time or Part‑time

Pay: £13.75–£14.50 per hour

Schools across the Lancaster, Morecambe and Heysham areas are recruiting Pastoral and Welfare Assistants to support pupils’ emotional wellbeing, behaviour and day‑to‑day welfare. This is a vital role within the school community, focused on ensuring every pupil feels safe, supported and able to engage fully in their learning.

Responsibilities

  • Provide emotional, social and behavioural support to pupils who require additional guidance
  • Build positive, supportive relationships with pupils, families and staff
  • Support wellbeing interventions and respond to pastoral concerns
  • Promote positive behaviour, safeguarding awareness and inclusive practice
  • Assist with attendance, engagement and welfare‑related initiatives
  • Maintain accurate pastoral records in line with school procedures

Qualifications

  • Experience in pastoral work, youth work, care, or school‑based support
  • Strong communication, empathy and rapport‑building skills
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality
  • Calm, reliable and confident managing sensitive or challenging situations
  • Understanding of safeguarding and pupil‑wellbeing frameworks
