We are seeking an experienced, passionate, and dedicated SENDCo to join our secondary school and lead the provision for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). This is a key leadership role within the school, responsible for ensuring that all pupils with SEND receive high-quality support and are empowered to achieve their full potential. The successful candidate will work closely with staff, parents/carers, and external agencies to develop and implement inclusive practices that promote positive outcomes for all learners.

The role is available on a full-time basis and encompasses both SENDCo responsibilities and PPA cover across the school. However, for the ideal candidate, a part-time contract focusing exclusively on the SENDCo role will also be considered.

  • Lead and manage the school's SEND provision and policy.
  • Coordinate the identification, assessment, and support of pupils with SEND.
  • Monitor and evaluate pupil progress and the impact of interventions.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff to promote inclusive classroom practice.
  • Provide guidance, training, and support to colleagues on effective SEND strategies.
  • Build strong partnerships with parents/carers to support pupil development.
  • Liaise with external agencies, including educational psychologists, therapists, and local authority services.
  • Oversee EHCP processes, annual reviews, and statutory documentation.
  • Manage SEND resources and the deployment of support staff.
  • Ensure compliance with the SEND Code of Practice and all statutory requirements.

Requirements:

  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Have significant experience working with pupils with SEND, ideally within a secondary setting.
  • Hold, or be willing to work towards, the National Professional Qualification (NPQ) for SENCO.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of SEND legislation and the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Possess excellent leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
  • Be committed to inclusive education and raising achievement for all pupils.
  • Have the ability to build effective relationships with staff, families, and external professionals.
