I am recruiting on behalf of a mainstream secondary school in the BS11 area of Bristol for a dedicated and compassionate
Maths & English Tutor to support students on a 1:1 basis.
This role will focus primarily on working with
Children in Care / Looked After Children who have experienced disruptions to their education, resulting in gaps in learning and reduced confidence within the classroom.
The successful candidate will play a vital role in helping students re-engage with learning, build self-belief and make meaningful academic progress.
As a
Maths & English Tutor , you will
- Deliver targeted 1:1 support in Maths and English
- Identify and address gaps in learning
- Adapt lessons and resources to meet individual needs
- Build positive, trusting relationships with students
- Support learners whose academic ability may differ from their chronological age
- Help students develop confidence, resilience and independence
- Track progress and work closely with school staff to ensure positive outcomes
- Create a supportive and engaging learning environment
The students you will support are primarily
- Children in Care / Looked After Children
- Learners who have experienced disrupted education
- Students who may have attended multiple schools
- Young people with significant gaps in Maths and English
- Students requiring additional encouragement and consistency
As a result, experience supporting learners across a range of ages and abilities is highly beneficial, as learning levels may be below expected age-related expectations.

- Passionate about improving outcomes for vulnerable young people
- Adaptable and confident differentiating learning
- Reliable, committed and able to provide consistency
- Skilled at motivating students who may lack confidence in education

- Strong literacy and numeracy skills
- Experience supporting children or young people in an educational setting
- Ability to deliver personalised learning support
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
Drivers are highly desirable.
The role is based in the
