Teaching Personnel are currently working with a specialist provision secondary school in Manchester to find a passionate Learning Support Assistant that will be classroom based. The school works with young people from the age of 11 to 18, though many pupils will be working at a lower level. The role would involve working one to one and in small groups to provide individualised support for students with complex needs, like ASC or autistic traits.
Key responsibilities:
- Working one to one with children following their EHCP and behaviour plans to provide tailored support
- Assist the pupils with both learning activities and continuous provision
- Foster a nurturing, inclusive and motivating environment
- Collaborate closely with the class teacher, SENCO and other staff to implement appropriate teaching strategies
- Promote an environment where pupils feel valued, respected and motivated
- Possible personal care and mobility support
Requirements:
- Previous experience working with young people who have additional learning needs
- Experience and confidence with challenging behaviour, knowledge of de-escalation strategies and building relationships
- Be confident in working and assisting students independently
- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong understanding of safeguarding procedures
