Are you committed to supporting young people with diverse and complex needs such as social communication difficulties, trauma-related behaviours, physical disabilities, sensory regulation challenges and developmental delays? Teaching Personnel is looking for a compassionate and motivated Pastoral Support Worker to support in one of our specialist SEN secondary schools in Manchester City Centre.
About the Role
This is a vital role focused on pastoral care, wellbeing and behaviour support for students aged *****. You’ll help pupils navigate emotional challenges, regulate behaviour and build positive relationships, enabling them to feel safe, understood and ready to learn.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing daily emotional support and wellbeing guidance to students
- Building strong, trusted relationships to help pupils manage behaviour and anxiety
- Offering calming interventions and de-escalation support during challenging moments
- Monitoring attendance, behaviour patterns and pastoral records
- Supporting pupils with sensory breaks, safe spaces and individual support plans
- Promoting a positive school culture where every pupil feels valued
- Safeguarding students always in accordance with school policy

We are seeking someone who is empathetic, patient, confident and adaptable, with a genuine desire to support young people with additional needs.
Essential Requirements
- Experience working with young people with SEN or behavioural needs (school, youth work, residential or mentoring backgrounds welcome)
- Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
- Ability to remain calm, consistent and proactive in high-pressure situations
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with staff and families
- A positive, solution-focused approach and commitment to supporting each pupil’s personal development
- Full-time availability
