Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people? We are looking for a resilient and empathetic SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist secondary school in Manchester. You will be supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, including anxiety, ADHD, trauma-related behaviours, and emotional dysregulation. These pupils often display challenging behaviour, and your role will be key in helping them re-engage with learning and develop positive coping strategies.

  • Provide tailored classroom support to pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Deliver 1:1 interventions to help students manage emotions and improve engagement.
  • Assist teachers in creating a safe, structured learning environment.
  • Implement behaviour management strategies to promote positive behaviour.
  • Support pupils in developing social skills and emotional resilience.
  • Monitor progress and provide feedback to staff and parents.

Resilient, patient, and empathetic approach. Ability to remain calm under pressure and build positive relationships. Experience working with challenging behaviour (school or non-school settings considered). Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Enhanced DBS on the Update Service – essential.
