Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated SEMH 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support students in a specialist provision for pupils aged 11-16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
Many students have EHCPs and may present with additional needs such as Autism, ADHD, attachment difficulties, emotional regulation challenges, trauma‑related needs, and school avoidance.
The provision offers a nurturing and highly personalised approach, helping students overcome barriers to learning and achieve both academically and personally.
The Role
As a 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you will be a consistent and positive role model for a young person, helping them engage with education and build confidence.
Key responsibilities
- Provide tailored 1:1 support throughout the school day.
- Build trusting relationships that promote emotional wellbeing and resilience.
- Support students to regulate emotions and manage behaviour positively.
- Adapt learning activities to help pupils access the curriculum successfully.
- Work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to achieve individual targets.
- Encourage independence, social development, and positive decision‑making.
- Celebrate progress and milestones, helping students recognise their achievements.
What We're Looking For
- Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEN, or behavioural needs is desirable.
- A calm, patient, and resilient approach.
- Strong communication and relationship‑building skills.
- Ability to remain positive in challenging situations.
- A genuine commitment to improving outcomes for vulnerable young people.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
