Alterative Provision Supervisor in Llantwit Major

Teaching Personnel are seeking a dedicated, resilient, and compassionate Alternative Provision Supervisor on behalf of a close partner secondary school in the Vale of Glamorgan. This is an exciting opportunity to support students who require an alternative learning environment, helping them overcome barriers to education and achieve positive outcomes both academically and personally. Purpose of the Role: The Alternative Provision Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation of the school's alternative provision, ensuring students receive high-quality support, appropriate learning opportunities, and effective pastoral care. The post holder will promote positive behaviour, engagement, attendance, and wellbeing while supporting students to successfully reintegrate into mainstream education wherever appropriate.

Key Responsibilities:

• Student Support: Supervise students attending the alternative provision throughout the school day. Build positive, trusting relationships with students who may present with social, emotional, behavioural, or additional learning needs. Support students in accessing learning and completing work set by subject teachers. Encourage high expectations of behaviour, attendance, punctuality, and personal responsibility. Provide mentoring and emotional support to help students develop resilience, confidence, and self-regulation.
• Behaviour Management: Maintain a calm, safe, and structured learning environment. Implement the school's behaviour policy consistently and fairly. Use restorative approaches to resolve conflict and promote positive relationships. Record and report behavioural incidents accurately and promptly. Support students in reflecting on their behaviour and developing strategies for improvement.
• Learning Support: Facilitate independent learning using resources provided by teaching staff. Monitor student engagement and progress throughout lessons. Provide feedback to teachers regarding student participation and achievement. Support students in developing organisational, study, and independent learning skills.
• Safeguarding and Wellbeing: Promote the welfare and safeguarding of all students. Identify and report safeguarding concerns in accordance with school policies. Monitor students' wellbeing and liaise with pastoral leaders where additional support is required. Work collaboratively with parents, carers, and external professionals to support student success.
• Communication and Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, Heads of Year, SEND staff, attendance teams, and senior leaders. Attend meetings relating to student progress and support planning. Maintain accurate records of attendance, behaviour, interventions, and outcomes. Contribute to personalised support plans and reintegration programmes.

Person Specification:

Essential Criteria:

• Experience working with young people aged 11–16.
• Experience supporting students with challenging behaviour or additional needs.
• Excellent behaviour management skills.
• Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
• Good organisational and administrative skills.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting student welfare.

Desirable Criteria:

• Experience working within an alternative provision, inclusion unit, or pupil referral setting.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed practice.
• Understanding of SEND, SEMH, and behaviour support strategies.
• Positive behaviour intervention or de-escalation training.
• Relevant Level 3 qualification in education, youth work, childcare, or pastoral support.
