Are you passionate about supporting children with Additional Learning Needs (ALN), particularly Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)? We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to work within a specialist ASD resource base attached to a mainstream setting in Llandeilo. This rewarding role involves supporting pupils with a range of ASC needs, from those requiring 1:1 tailored support to others working within small group provision. Each learner presents a unique profile, including differences in:
- Communication
- Sensory processing
- Emotional regulation
- Social interaction
The resource base provides a nurturing, structured, and supportive environment, enabling pupils to build independence, confidence, and essential life skills, alongside accessing aspects of the mainstream curriculum where appropriate.
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide individualised 1:1 support and facilitate small group activities
- Use adapted communication strategies (visual aids, PECS, structured routines)
- Support pupils with emotional regulation and behaviour, using calm, consistent approaches
- Work closely with teaching staff to implement IDP/EHCP targets
- Encourage independence, engagement, and inclusion
- Support smooth transitions throughout the school day
No two days are the same, but you can expect to:
- Welcome pupils and support with their morning routine and settling in
- Assist with structured learning sessions, breaking tasks into manageable steps
- Use visual timetables and sensory strategies to aid transitions
- Facilitate social interaction and play opportunities
- Support pupils with sensory or movement breaks when needed
- Help manage behaviour positively and promote emotional wellbeing
- Work closely with teachers and staff to review and adapt support strategies
Your consistency, patience, and understanding will play a crucial role in helping pupils feel safe, supported, and ready to learn. We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience with ASC or ALN (desirable, not essential)
- Is empathetic, resilient, and calm under pressure
- Can support both 1:1 and group learning
- Has strong communication and teamwork skills
- Is proactive, flexible, and passionate about supporting young people
