1:1 GCSE Tutor – Intervention Provision (Leigh)

Location: Leigh, Greater Manchester

Working Pattern: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday

Hours: 9:00am – 11:00am

Pay: Competitive hourly rate (via Teaching Personnel)

Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated and experienced 1:1 Tutor to support students within a specialist intervention provision in Leigh. This role is ideal for a confident educator who is passionate about engaging learners who require additional support to access education.

About the Provision

You will be working within a supportive, small-scale intervention setting designed for students aged 14–16 (KS4) who are currently unable to attend mainstream school. The provision supports pupils with a range of needs, including:

  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
  • Anxiety and school-based avoidance
  • Behavioural challenges
  • Gaps in learning due to disrupted education

The environment is structured, nurturing, and focused on re-engaging students with core academic subjects and rebuilding confidence.

The Role

As a 1:1 Tutor, you will deliver GCSE Maths and English sessions tailored to individual learning needs. You will play a key role in supporting academic progress while also fostering engagement and resilience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons in GCSE Maths and English
  • Provide one-to-one support tailored to each student’s ability and needs
  • Identify learning gaps and adapt teaching strategies accordingly
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with students to encourage participation
  • Monitor and record progress against academic and personal targets
  • Support students in developing confidence and independent learning skills
  • Work collaboratively with the wider staff team to ensure consistent support

Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) (Desirable but not essential)
  • Strong experience tutoring GCSE Maths and English
  • Experience working with KS4 students, particularly those with SEMH or additional needs
  • Excellent behaviour management and engagement strategies
  • Ability to differentiate learning effectively on a 1:1 basis
  • Patient, resilient, and empathetic approach
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one)
