We are supporting a specialist education setting in Northumberland in their search for a caring, proactive and skilled Learning Support Assistant to join their dedicated team. This provision is committed to ensuring every pupil with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) can access a high-quality, inclusive education that enables them to thrive academically, socially and emotionally. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with a range of SEND needs.
  • Assist in delivering differentiated and accessible teaching across the curriculum.
  • Support pupils’ emotional wellbeing using trauma-informed practice, nurture and restorative approaches.
  • Implement personalised interventions such as literacy and numeracy programmes, SEMH mentoring, and therapeutic strategies.
  • Follow EHCP outcomes, SEND Support Plans and Behaviour/Regulation Plans consistently.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, parents/carers and external professionals to ensure coordinated support.
  • Encourage pupil voice and independence through positive relationships and tailored strategies.

Key Qualifications and Experience

  • Hold an Enhanced Child DBS (Preferred).
  • Have experience supporting pupils with SEND (ASD, ADHD, SEMH, speech and language needs, trauma).
  • Be patient, calm, resilient and able to build positive, trusting relationships.
  • Understand or be willing to learn trauma-informed and nurture-based approaches.
  • Be confident adapting tasks, materials and expectations to meet individual needs.
  • Work effectively as part of a multi‑disciplinary team.

  • SEN Teaching Assistant / LSA experience
  • Health & Social Care
  • Youth Work or Behaviour Support
  • ELSA / SEMH mentoring roles
  • Speech & Language support experience
  • Care or residential settings
  • Sports coaching or mentoring
  • Scouts/Guides leadership
  • 1:1 academic or behavioural support experience
