Teaching Personnel Preston Branch is recruiting Trainee Teaching Assistants to work within welcoming primary schools across Lancaster starting from September 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with little or no school-based experience to gain hands-on training while making a real difference to pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
As a Trainee Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils within primary school settings (EYFS, KS1, and KS2), working alongside experienced teachers and support staff to help children reach their full potential. You will provide support on a one-to-one basis and in small groups, helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and develop confidence both academically and socially.
- Support pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in lessons and intervention sessions
- Deliver tailored one-to-one and small group support
- Build positive relationships to encourage confidence, engagement, and independence
- Assist with pupils' academic, emotional, behavioural, and social development
- Promote positive behaviour and contribute to an inclusive classroom environment
- Support teachers with lesson delivery and classroom activities
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff and other support professionals
- Gain valuable experience supporting children with a range of learning needs
No prior Teaching Assistant experience is required. We welcome applications from individuals who:
- Have a genuine passion for working with children
- Are considering a future career in teaching, education, psychology, counselling, youth work, or social care
- Have experience (personal or professional) supporting children with SEN, autism, ADHD, or additional needs
- Are patient, empathetic, resilient, and eager to learn
- Possess strong communication and relationship-building skills
