Role Overview

As a Behavioural Support Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting pupils with SEMH needs and behavioural challenges. Working closely with class teachers, the SENCO and wider support staff, you will provide both 1:1 and small-group interventions, helping children develop positive coping strategies, improve engagement and achieve their potential within the classroom.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the implementation of Individual Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs) and targeted interventions for pupils with SEMH needs.
• Provide effective 1:1 and small-group support using trauma-informed and restorative approaches.
• Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils to promote confidence, wellbeing and positive behaviour.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO and external professionals to monitor progress and adapt support strategies.
• Create and maintain a calm, structured and safe learning environment across the school.
• Encourage pupils to develop social, emotional and self-regulation skills that support long-term success.

The Ideal Candidate

We're looking for someone who:

• Has experience working with children with SEMH needs, behavioural difficulties or additional learning needs.
• Demonstrates strong behaviour management skills and an understanding of trauma-informed or restorative practices.
• Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Shows resilience, patience and a genuine commitment to supporting vulnerable pupils.
• Can work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team while building strong relationships with pupils and families.
• Is passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.
