A specialist SEND school in Hove is seeking an experienced and compassionate Science Teacher to join our multidisciplinary team, supporting young people aged 12–18 within a Tier 4 Eating Disorder service. The pupils present with a primary diagnosis of an eating disorder, or eating difficulties alongside co-morbid mental health needs such as depression, OCD, anxiety, or self-harm. This is a unique and rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in a highly supportive, therapeutic educational setting.

The Role

  • Deliver engaging, differentiated Science lessons tailored to individual learning and wellbeing needs.
  • Support pupils’ academic progress, emotional regulation, and re-engagement with learning.
  • Work closely with clinicians, therapists, families, and support staff as part of a holistic care model.
  • Contribute to individual education plans (IEPs/EHCPs) and risk management strategies.
  • Create a calm, nurturing classroom environment that promotes recovery, confidence, and resilience.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Qualified Science Teacher (QTS/QTLS or equivalent) with strong SEND experience.
  • Proven experience supporting young people with complex mental health needs; experience in ED or CAMHS settings is highly desirable.
  • Skilled in trauma-informed practice, differentiation, and positive behaviour support.
  • Patient, empathetic, and resilient, with excellent communication and teamwork skills.
