Teaching Personnel are working in partnership with a number of outstanding SEN schools across West Sussex, supporting pupils with a wide range of special educational and social, emotional and mental health needs. We’re seeking dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistants who are passionate about making a lasting difference in the lives of young people with additional needs. The Role:
As a Learning Support Assistant, you’ll play a crucial part in helping pupils access learning, develop confidence, and achieve personal goals. You’ll be working closely with teachers, therapists, and pastoral teams to provide tailored support both inside and outside the classroom.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support pupils with a range of needs including autism (ASC), ADHD, SEMH challenges, and moderate to severe learning difficulties.
- Assist in the implementation of individual education and behaviour support plans.
- Build trusting and supportive relationships with pupils, encouraging positive social and emotional development.
- Promote engagement and motivation in lessons through creative, differentiated support.
- Provide 1:1 and small group interventions to help pupils achieve academic and personal targets.
- Manage behaviour in line with school policies, promoting self-regulation and positive choices.
- Support pupils during unstructured times (breaks, lunch, transitions) to ensure consistency and safety.
- Liaise with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to support progress and wellbeing.
- Record observations and contribute to reviews and reports on pupil progress.
- Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and safeguarding standards at all times.
What We’re Looking For:
- Full-time availability (Monday to Friday, term time).
- A caring, empathetic, and patient personality.
- Experience working with children or young people (in schools, care, or youth settings) is highly desirable.
- A proactive approach and willingness to learn.
- Ability to drive is highly advantageous due to school locations.
- A valid Child Only Enhanced DBS certificate on the Update Service – or willingness to apply for one through Teaching Personnel.
