We are seeking an inspirational and experienced Head of Mathematics to lead and develop our Maths provision within a specialist setting supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN). This is a unique opportunity for a passionate educator to shape a creative, inclusive, and highly supportive Maths curriculum tailored to learners with diverse and often complex needs. Our pupils present with a range of additional needs, including autism spectrum conditions, social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs including complex trauma, and associated communication and learning differences. Many learners require highly personalised approaches, structured environments, and consistent, nurturing support to enable them to engage successfully with education.

The Role

  • Lead and manage the Maths department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning across all key stages.
  • Champion innovative and therapeutic approaches to Maths teaching, embedding strategies that support engagement, regulation, and confidence.
  • Support staff in developing effective SEN teaching practices.
  • Monitor progress in a meaningful way, recognising small steps of achievement and celebrating success.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and strong subject knowledge in Mathematics.
  • Experience working with pupils with SEN, particularly autism and/or SEMH.
  • A deep understanding of how barriers to learning impact engagement with Maths.
  • A flexible, patient, and creative approach to teaching.
  • Strong leadership skills and a commitment to developing others.
  • A belief that every pupil can achieve with the right support.
