Behaviour Support Mentor in Guildford

We're looking for resilient, proactive, and compassionate individuals to join our team as Behaviour Support Mentors - working directly with children and young people who have Special Educational Needs (SEN) and may require additional personal care and support to thrive in education and beyond.

Who Thrives in This Role?

• A Sports Coach - who understands the power of teamwork, structure, and motivation, and can inspire children through activity and encouragement.
• A Psychology or Criminology Graduate - eager to put your understanding of behaviour, learning, and development into meaningful practice.
• A Social Worker or Support Worker - experienced in behaviour support, SEN provision, or trauma-informed care, with a passion for helping young people reach their potential.
• Ex-Military Personnel - bringing calm under pressure, consistency, leadership, and a steady presence.
• A Youth Worker, Teaching Assistant, or Mentor - with hands-on experience supporting young people in education, community, or care settings.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with behavioural, emotional, or social challenges, including those with SEN or additional learning needs.
• Offer personal care support where needed, ensuring every student's dignity, comfort, and wellbeing are prioritised.
• Build strong, trusting relationships that help young people feel safe, valued, and understood.
• De-escalate incidents with patience, empathy, and confidence.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff to implement tailored behaviour and support plans.
• Be a consistent, reliable role model - someone who provides structure, reassurance, and positivity throughout the school day.

What You'll Need

• Natural resilience, empathy, and a good sense of humour - the perfect combination for working with young people who face barriers to learning.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to connect and adapt to individual needs.
• A calm, patient, and fair approach to behaviour management and personal care.
• A current DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service check) or a willingness to obtain one before starting.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
