Programme Overview

Teaching Personnel is recruiting graduates for its Future Teachers Programme, a structured two-year pathway designed to support aspiring teachers from classroom experience through to fully salaried teacher training.

This programme is ideal for graduates who want to gain hands‑on school experience before committing to Initial Teacher Training, while benefiting from ongoing support and a clear progression route.

Year 1 – Paid School Experience

In your first year, you will be placed in a secondary school in Derby as a Cover Supervisor, gaining valuable classroom exposure and practical experience.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supervising classes during short-term teacher absence
  • Ensuring students complete pre-set work
  • Managing classroom behaviour in line with school policies
  • Supporting teaching and pastoral teams where appropriate

This role does not involve lesson planning, marking, or direct teaching.

Year 2 – Salaried Teacher Training

Following successful completion of Year 1, participants progress into a salaried Initial Teacher Training (ITT) position.

  • Working towards Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Structured mentoring and professional development
  • Opportunity to complete a PGCE alongside QTS
  • Continued placement within the same school or trust where possible

This ensures continuity, confidence, and a smooth transition into a teaching career.
