Functional Skills Tutor – Salford (Greater Manchester)
Flexible hours | £25–£30 per hour | One-to-one tuition in homes or libraries

Are you a qualified teacher or skilled tutor with experience in delivering Functional Skills? We’re looking for motivated educators in the Salford area to support learners outside of mainstream education.

Working on a one-to-one basis, you’ll provide personalised support in English and/or Maths to young people who may have fallen behind due to a range of challenges—whether that’s school refusal, special educational needs, or other barriers to traditional classroom learning.

Most learners are working below age-related expectations and may be preparing for Functional Skills qualifications as part of their reintegration into education or training. Sessions typically take place in the pupil’s home or a public space such as a local library.

This is a fantastic opportunity to focus on meaningful, targeted teaching without the demands of a full classroom. You’ll help learners rebuild confidence, develop life-ready skills, and take positive steps forward.

We’re especially keen to hear from:

Qualified teachers (QTS/QTLS)

Tutors with experience in Functional Skills or alternative education

Educators who are confident working independently with vulnerable learners

Those with experience supporting young people with SEND or SEMH needs

Role highlights:

Deliver one-to-one Functional Skills tuition in English and/or Maths

Plan and tailor sessions to meet the learner’s ability and goals

Track and report progress regularly to key stakeholders

Build trust and engagement with young people who may feel disengaged from learning

What you’ll get:

£25–£30 per hour (PAYE, weekly pay – no hidden fees)

Flexible hours that work around your schedule (typically within 8am–4pm, Mon–Fri)

Placements in Salford and surrounding areas

A dedicated consultant to support you

Opportunities for CPD and professional growth

The chance to make a genuine difference to a young person’s future

If you’re passionate about supporting learners with practical, purposeful education and want a role that gives you flexibility and impact—this could be a great fit.
