About the Role

As an SEMH Teacher, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality, differentiated teaching to pupils who require additional emotional and behavioural support. You will create a safe, structured, and nurturing classroom environment where children feel supported and able to engage in learning. You will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging lessons, while also supporting pupils in developing emotional regulation, resilience, and positive relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver tailored lessons to meet the diverse needs of pupils with SEMH needs
  • Manage behaviour effectively using positive strategies and de-escalation techniques
  • Support pupils’ emotional development and wellbeing
  • Create a calm, structured, and inclusive learning environment
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to support engagement
  • Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, SENCOs, and pastoral staff
  • Monitor and assess pupil progress, adapting teaching strategies accordingly
  • Provide consistency, routine, and clear expectations in the classroom

Essential Criteria

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Experience teaching in a primary setting
  • Strong understanding of SEMH needs and behaviour management strategies
  • Calm, patient, and resilient approach
  • Ability to adapt teaching to support individual learning needs
  • Confident in managing challenging behaviour
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Commitment to a full-time, long-term role

Desirable Experience

  • Experience working in an SEMH, SEN, or alternative provision setting
  • Team Teach training (or willingness to undertake training)
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practice
