About the Role

Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to work in a 1:1 capacity within specialist SEN schools in Epsom, Surrey. This role focuses on providing individualised support to a specific student, helping them access learning, regulate emotions, and reach their full potential in a supportive and structured environment.

About the Setting

You will be working in welcoming, specialist SEN schools supporting pupils aged 5–18 with needs including:

  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
  • Moderate to Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD)
  • Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
  • ADHD and behavioural needs
  • Sensory processing difficulties

These settings provide nurturing, structured support with strong collaboration between staff, therapists, and families.

Key Responsibilities

As a 1:1 HLTA, you will:

  • Provide focused 1:1 support tailored to the student’s individual needs
  • Adapt and deliver learning activities to suit ability and learning style
  • Support emotional regulation and behaviour management
  • Implement personalised education and behaviour plans
  • Build a consistent, trusting relationship with the pupil
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals
  • Lead targeted interventions and support lesson engagement

  • HLTA qualified (essential)
  • Experienced supporting pupils with SEN on a 1:1 basis
  • Patient, empathetic, and resilient
  • Confident leading learning activities and interventions

  • Skilled in building strong relationships with students
  • Experience with ASD, SEMH, or complex needs is highly desirable.
