Programme Overview
Teaching Personnel is recruiting graduates for its Future Teachers Programme, a structured two-year pathway designed to support aspiring teachers from classroom experience through to fully salaried teacher training. This programme is ideal for graduates who want to gain hands-on school experience before committing to Initial Teacher Training, while benefiting from ongoing support and a clear progression route.
Year 1 – Paid School Experience
In your first year, you will be placed in a secondary school in Derby as a Cover Supervisor, gaining valuable classroom exposure and practical experience. Key responsibilities include:
- Supervising classes during short-term teacher absence
- Ensuring students complete pre-set work
- Managing classroom behaviour in line with school policies
- Supporting teaching and pastoral teams where appropriate
This role does not involve lesson planning, marking, or direct teaching.
Year 2 – Salaried Teacher Training
Following successful completion of Year 1, participants progress into a salaried Initial Teacher Training (ITT) position. Year 2 includes:
- Working towards Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Structured mentoring and professional development
- Opportunity to complete a PGCE alongside QTS
- Continued placement within the same school or trust where possible
This ensures continuity, confidence, and a smooth transition into a teaching career.
