Looking for Flexible Work Supporting Young People?

Teaching Personnel is working with a range of specialist SEND and SEMH schools across Stoke-on-Trent that are looking for caring, reliable, and resilient support staff to work on a flexible day-to-day basis.

This is an excellent opportunity for graduates looking to gain valuable experience working with children and young people, as well as experienced care workers, support workers, youth workers, or similar professionals looking to transfer their skills into education.

You do not need previous school experience if you have strong transferable skills and the right attitude.

The Role

  • Provide day-to-day support to pupils with SEND and SEMH needs.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with young people.
  • Support pupils with learning, behaviour, emotional regulation, and development.
  • Help create a safe, structured, and nurturing environment.
  • Work alongside teachers, teaching assistants, pastoral teams, and senior leaders.
  • Support pupils who may have experienced challenges within mainstream education.
  • Encourage positive behaviour, engagement, confidence, and independence.
  • Adapt your approach to meet individual pupil needs.

We're Looking For Someone Who:

  • Is passionate about supporting children and young people.
  • Is patient, resilient, approachable, and able to build positive relationships.
  • Has experience working with young people in education, care, support work, youth work, or a similar setting.
  • Has transferable skills in communication, behaviour management, mentoring, coaching, or emotional support.
  • Is confident working as part of a wider team.
  • Is adaptable and comfortable working in different school environments.
  • Is looking for flexible day-to-day work.

Why Consider This Role?

  • Flexible day-to-day work to suit your availability.
  • Work across a variety of SEND and SEMH schools in Stoke-on-Trent.
  • Excellent opportunity for graduates to gain practical experience.
  • Ideal for experienced care or support workers looking for a change of environment.
  • Develop valuable skills in behaviour, communication, safeguarding, and supporting additional needs.
  • Gain experience that can support future careers in education, psychology, social care, or other people-focused professions.
  • Support from Teaching Personnel throughout your placements.
  • Potential access to longer-term and permanent opportunities.

To Be Eligible For This Role Through Teaching Personnel, You Must:

  • Hold the right to work in the UK.
  • Have experience working with children, young people, vulnerable individuals, or transferable skills relevant to the role.
  • Have an enhanced DBS certificate on the Update Service, or be willing to obtain one.
  • Provide two professional references covering the last two years.

If you're looking for flexible work where you can make a genuine difference to young people while gaining valuable experience, we'd love to hear from you.
